A husband and wife have appeared in court charged with perverting the course of justice in connection with a horror road smash their son has been accused of causing.

Two people died and a number of other young people were injured following the crash near Ballycastle on Easter Monday.

Shane Kinney (20) has already appeared in court charged with causing death by dangerous driving and other charges following a crash at Cushendall Road, Ballycastle, on April 6.

He returned to Coleraine Magistrates Court today where he was joined in the dock by his dad Kevin Alexander Kinney (50) and his mum Sharon Kinney (48).

The pair are both charged with intending to pervert the course of justice by removing their son's Volkswagen Golf car which is involved in the investigation of the fatal road traffic collision.

They are also charged with conspiring with each other in the alleged offence.

Kevin Kinney is further charged with stealing £100 worth of car parts from McAuley Car Dismantlers in Armoy.

An engineer's report in the case is expected in October, with `other forensic matters' likely to be completed by September.

Mr and Mrs Kinney were each released on their own bail of £500 and their case and their son's have been adjourned to September 21.

Shane Kinney of Drones Road, Armoy, is charged with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, seven charges of causing grievous bodily injury by dangerous driving, perverting the course of justice and a number of other offences.

They included failing to report an accident and failing to remain at the scene. He was also charged with drugs offences.

The charges relate to a collision on the Cushendall Road, Ballycastle, in the early hours of April 6 this year when Johnny Black (19) from Ballycastle and Robin Wilson (26) from Armoy, died.

Clodagh Arbuckle (18) from Ballycastle was left with serious injuries, but is now out of hospital.
