PARAMEDICS who treated Phoebe Clawson on Monday were wearing protective riot gear.

Police and nationalist bystanders lifted the car to allow ambulance staff to treat the teenager.

Paramedics who gave the 16-year-old first aid at the scene were dressed in dark protective clothing similar to police riot uniforms.

They were identifiable by the words 'paramedic' and 'ambulance' on their body armour and a cross on their helmets.

The Irish News revealed earlier this year that paramedics in the north were to wear "personal issue" protective riot gear for the first time - with around a dozen frontline staff privately trained by the PSNI over the past year.
