ONE of the world's biggest recording artists took time out of his busy schedule to go fishing off the Co Down coast.

Neil Diamond, who plays the second of two concerts at Belfast's Odyssey arena tonight, took a trip from the small coastal town of Donaghadee.

The US star, who has racked up more than 125 million record sales, hired a boat with his two grandchildren to go fishing on Monday.

Quinton Nelson, who runs a boating business in Donaghadee, accompanied the singer.

"I was navigating the boat while he was out fishing," Mr Nelson told the BBC. "He was only here for a couple of hours with his grandchildren."

Mr Nelson said Diamond reeled in a healthy catch.

"I'd say between the three of them, they would have caught around half a dozen pollack, which is a white fish.

"He was enjoying himself and said he was looking forward to seeing the rest of the country," he said.
