Co Tyrone farmer dies after being attacked by bull

A CO TYRONE farmer was gored to death by a bull in a tragic accident on Friday evening.

Seamus Kelly, who was in his sixties, was working on his own when he was attacked by the animal on the family farm in Largylea, Gallbally close to Pomeroy.

Paramedics and the PSNI were called but the father-of-two died at the scene.

Pomeroy parish priest Fr David Moore was called to the farm shortly after the tragedy. He was pronounced dead around 6.30pm.

It is understood he suffered severe wounds to his chest.

Fr Moore will officiate at Mr Kelly's funeral mass this morning.

He described Mr Kelly as a "quiet, down-to-earth family man".

"Seamus and his wife Rosaleen were one of the first two people I saw at church on a Sunday morning. They were a very quiet and modest couple.

"I would say Rosaleen and the couple's two sons, Declan and Cathal, are in a deep state of shock. They are very distressed but have conducted themselves with great decorum over the past few days."

The family has been comforted by close friends and neighbours in the rural parish.

"Since Friday evening, everyone has really pulled together and the family have been very touched by this. The support given by the paramedics and police was also very good.

"On behalf of the parish, I wish to send my prayers and support to them."

Requiem mass will take place this morning at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Altmore at 11am.
