Man arrested over Eglinton car bomb released

A CO Armagh man arrested in connection with the attempted bombing of a police officer’s car has been released unconditionally.

The 57-year-old was arrested in Lurgan on Monday morning following the attempted attack on the serving officer’s car at Eglinton last Thursday. Police said a viable device was left under the vehicle which was parked outside the home the intended victim shared with his fellow PSNI officer wife at Glenrandel.

Three men in their 20s and 30s, one from Lurgan and two from Dublin, were arrested in Co Donegal in connection with the attempted attack while a 27-year-old man was also arrested in Eglinton some time later on Thursday. All four were later released pending further reports.

A dissident group, calling itself the IRA, has claimed responsibility for the attempted attack.
