ATTACKERS smashed the windows of a house in what police have described as a racially-motivated hate crime.

A man in his thirties and woman in her forties were inside the house in Cloyne Crescent, Newtownabbey, Co Antrim when it was targeted at around 11.30pm on Sunday.

Three windows were broken but the residents were not hurt.

It is understood the woman is originally from India.

Inspector Jim Gourley appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

"We are treating this incident as a racially motivated hate crime," he said.

Alliance Councillor Tom Campbell condemned the attack.

"Everyone should have the right to live in their own home without fear and intimidation and my thoughts are with the man and woman in question as they recover from this ordeal," he said.

"We cannot allow Newtownabbey to become known for this type of behaviour and certainly those behind this attack do not represent the majority in our community.

"I would urge anyone with information to contact the PSNI as soon as possible before the culprits can strike again."
