PSNI investigate link in two distraction burglaries

POLICE are investigating a link between distraction burglaries in Counties Down and Antrim.

Three men posing as utility workers targeted homes in Bangor and Lisburn on Saturday.

The men, who had southern accents, called at a house on Prospect Road in Bangor shortly after noon claiming to be from a water company.

Police said two of the men gained entry to the house while the occupants were distracted by the third.

They searched rooms, but it is unclear if anything was taken.

Later, at around 1.30pm, police received report of a similar distraction burglary in Lisburn.

Three men, also with southern Irish accents and claiming to be from an electric company, called at the home of an elderly couple in Woodland Park.

The couple were distracted by one of the men while the others entered the property.

They made off empty-handed when challenged.

Detective Constable Sonya Hawthorne said: "We believe these incidents to be linked and are appealing for anyone who was in either of these areas yesterday afternoon and who may have witnessed these males or any suspicious behaviour to contact police on the non-emergency number 101 or alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111."
