HE'S sold 10 million albums and had 20 albums in the British charts, but now the king of Irish country music, Daniel O'Donnell, is to embark on a new challenge - a road trip around Ireland's B&Bs.
The Donegal entertained and his wife Majella, who battled breast cancer last year, are to tour the country's beauty spots as part of a new TV show.
The 53-year-old singer will also entertain locals with his music.
O'Donnell was once known for hosting an annual tea party for fans at his family home in Kincasslagh in Co Donegal, but B&B owners will play now host and show the couple around their area.
The UTV series also promises cameo appearances from local performers and 'characters'.
O'Donnell is one of Ireland's most popular entertainers and is due to play a series of dates in Killarney, Co Kerry in August.
Last month he surprised some of his fans by revealing his support for the Yes campaign in the Republic's marriage referendum.
The singer, who was brought up by his mother Julia following his father's death, said he did not believe that a secure family unit relied on children having both a mother and a father.
“I was brought up without a father. My father died before I knew the benefit of a father. It was just my mother,” he said.
Mary Curtis, UTV Ireland’s head of channel, said the series will show a different side to the couple.
"Daniel and Majella are hugely popular with Irish audiences and they are a fantastic couple who complement each other perfectly," he said.
"Throughout the show, we will get to know them better as a couple, whilst seeing them as we have never seen them before. Their warm and fun personalities make them ideal hosts for this series.
"We are delighted to be welcoming Daniel and Majella to the UTV Ireland schedule and I think this series will resonate with people of all ages.”
The six-part series, Daniel and Majella's B&B Road Trip, will begin filming next month.
The series is set to air on UTV Ireland and UTV in the north in October.
