Former lottery millionaire handed new driving ban
A FORMER lottery multi-millionaire has been banned from driving and ordered to carry out community service after being convicted of motoring offences.
Co Derry man Ryan Magee won more than 6m on the Euromillions Lottery in 2008 and lived a lavish lifestyle, buying a Ferrari and a luxury home.
But Derry Magistrate's Court heard yesterday that the 34-year-old had suffered financial difficulties and was now several squares behind square one.
He appeared in court after he was caught driving a Ford Focus while disqualified and having no insurance on December 4.
Magee, of Monnaboy Road, Eglinton, pleaded guilty to the charges.
Since winning the lottery, Magee has racked up several driving bans.
A defence barrister told the court he has suffered several misfortunes and in recent years his life could be summed up as "every silver lining has a cloud".
It is understood his case was funded by legal aid.
Judge Peter King described Magee as a menace on the roads and said he could have been facing a jail sentence.
He banned him from driving again and ordered him to complete 200 hours of community service.
