Actors Dan Gordon and Christina Nelson yesterday led a 'save the arts' protest over a college's plans to cut drama courses.

Belfast Metropolitan College, which is facing a budget cut of 2.6 million, has decided not to offer dance and drama tuition in the next academic year.

"This does not affect our current dance and drama students who will continue their course in our Tower Street site next year, as planned. We are now in the process of contacting those who had applied for places in September to discuss their options," a spokeswoman said.

"Belfast Met is exceptionally proud of the contribution our students have made to dance and drama both locally and indeed across the world. This is due in no small part to the inspiration provided by our talented and dedicated staff."
