Nine killed in biker gang shoot-out in Texas

A shoot-out between rival biker gangs killed nine people in the city of Waco in the US state of Texas, police said last night.

Several people were also injured in the shooting, which happened at the Twin Peaks Sports Bar and Grill in a shopping area called the Central Texas Market Place.

Police said no officers, or customers or staff of the restaurant were among those who died.

One witness told the Waco Tribune-Herald the car park of the restaurant looked like "a war zone".

"There were maybe 30 guns being fired in the parking lot, maybe 100 rounds," Michelle Logan said.

Waco police Sergeant W. Patrick Swanton said police were trying to secure the area when a fight broke out inside the restaurant and spilled into the car park.

He said the fight quickly escalated from fists and feet to chains, clubs and knives, then to gunfire.

The officer said gang members shot at each other and officers also fired their guns. No police were injured in the shooting.
