Paralympic gold medallist Kelly Gallagher showed her artistic side yesterday as she met children and young people in Belfast.

The Bangor woman, who became the first person to win gold for Britain on snow during the Sochi games last year, shared her inspirational story during a visit to the Forthspring Inter Community group.

Gallagher is one of more than 1,300 elite athletes supported by lottery funding through UK Sport.

Forthspring Inter Community Group received £462,000 via the Big Lottery Fund for its Youth Matters project, which engages with vulnerable young people and is run from its community centre on the peace line between the Woodvale and Springfield areas of west Belfast.

As part of her visit yesterday, Kelly, who is visually impaired, took part in an art class with children from Springfield Primary School before meeting young people involved in Youth Matters.

She said: "I have had a great time meeting the children and young people associated with Forthspring Inter Community Group. It is clear the project does important and challenging work in the local area".
