Cameron crude, cheap and nasty, says Labour

DAVID Cameron has given up on the Scottish Conservative Party and become a campaign agent for the SNP, according to Scottish Labour leader Jim Murphy.

Mr Murphy accused the prime minister of a "crude, cheap and nasty" bid to bolster support for the SNP to deprive Labour of seats in its historic Scottish heartlands.

Mr Murphy said Mr Cameron is "playing with fire" with his constant focus on the SNP. "I'm determined that it will backfire - it's crude, it's cheap and it's nasty," he said. "He has given up on the Scottish Tory Party and he has given us all to the SNP. "The Scottish Tory Party no longer exists as an independent campaigning organisation. "David Cameron exists as the agent and the campaign manager for the SNP at the moment, because half of everything he says in this election isn't about his own party - he's talking more about the SNP than the Tory Party. It's desperate."

A recent poll by Lord Ashcroft put Mr Murphy nine points behind the SNP but the MP insists he is not worried about losing his East Renfrewshire seat. "I've been the outsider and the underdog in my constituency in every election," he said. "The favourite changes - in every other election it has been the Tories that have been the favourite and this election it is the SNP, according to the polls. "I'm confident of winning that seat but more importantly I'm confident that we can win a lot of seats here in Scotland. "Every seat we win here in Scotland is a step closer to David Cameron being out of Downing Street, and a step closer to Ed Miliband being in government."
