Twitter 'hashflags' for Alliance and SF

TWITTER has responded to criticism of its "election hashflags" by including Alliance and Sinn Féin in its list of political parties.

The SDLP and DUP were the only parties from the north to be included in the official Twitter UK count of 10 parties.

Catherine Seeley, Sinn Féin's Wesminster candidate for Upper Bann, had called on the social media giant to revisit the decision and "offer an explanation" for the party's omission.

Ms Seeley said: "This attracted criticism online from Sinn Féin supporters who contacted Twitter to register their displeasure."

The deputy mayor of Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon added: "I am pleased to welcome the fact Twitter have taken the criticism on board and have now provided Sinn Féin with a general election 'hashflag'."
