Tributes paid to ex-GAA player

TYRONE and Fermanagh GAA have been paying tribute to a man who left his mark on both counties during a distinguished sporting career.

Pat King died peacefully after a short illness at his Lisnaskea, Co Fermanagh home yesterday with his family around him.

A PE teacher by profession, he captained Tyrone in the 1970s and was on the 1973 Ulster title-winning team. King won five O'Neill Cup medals with club side Trillick and at 39 was the oldest player to start on the winning side in a senior county final in 1986. He also appeared in the final the following year. In 1983, he had captained the team to the league and championship double Crossing the border, he moved to Lisnaskea with whom he won a club championship title before going on to manage the Fermanagh senior team. Lisnaskea Emmett's GAC sent "thoughts and prayers" to his sons Barry, Shane and Ronan, as did Fermanagh's Club Eirne at the "very sad news about the passing of former Fermanagh GAA and Lisnaskea Emmett manager".

Trillick GAC also offered "sincere condolences to extended family and friends of club legend Pat King" who it said "played for club, county and province with style".
