TV show makes jive instructor Tyrone's most wanted

A

JIVE instructor from Co Tyrone has been inundated with requests for classes following the TV programme about the rural dance craze.

Tammy Love, a jive instructor and All-Ireland jiving champion from Newtownstewart, told The Irish News that she has had scores of friend requests on Facebook and people stopping her on the street since the programme.

And given the increasing interest she said she now hopes to add another class to her every growing number of learner jivers.

Tammy was featured in the True North: Keepin 'Er Country programme teaching Castlederg man Enda Lynch how to jive.

As a result of classes with Tammy, Enda was seen at the end of the programme asking a girl up to dance and show off his moves, just weeks after taking up jiving. "Enda learnt in about six to 10 weeks, it takes about 12 weeks normally but Enda is a quick learner," she said. "Practice is also very important. Enda was learning and then going out every week to a to practice."

Teaching jive once a week, Tammy has no intentions of giving up her full-time day job as a community support worker.

She said: "A great mix of people have come forward, including young people in Ballymena and a woman in Tyrone in her fifties." "It is mainly big in the border counties. Down south they have a different style, it's slower."

Men should ignore jive lessons at their peril, Tammy warned.

She said: "If you are a fella and you ask a girl up to jive and you can't jive, she will look for any excuse to get away. She will stay on for a few more songs if you are a good dancer."
