Pensioner to face trial over alleged abuse 30 years ago

A CO TYRONE pensioner is to go on trial accused of a sex attack on a boy more than 30 years ago. Anthony Woods (70) faces charges of sexual activity with a child under 16 and four counts of indecent assault on a male.

The alleged offences involve two different victims and were committed in the Belfast area between 1980 and 1982.

Woods, with an address at Coolnagard Heights in Omagh, appeared before Belfast Magistrates Court to establish if he has a case to answer. Preliminary enquiry proceedings were completed with the defendant being returned for trial on a date to be fixed, the Courts Service confirmed. Woods was released on continuing bail of £500 until his trial gets under way at Belfast Crown Court.
