Arrest after fuel laundering plant discovery

A 43-year-old man was arrested after a diesel laundering plant was discovered in Co Tyrone yesterday morning.

The plant was found in a shed on private premises near Ardboe.

A transit van and four tonnes of toxic waste were removed from the site.

The plant was capable of producing more than one million litres of illicit fuel a year. The man was interviewed by customs yesterday.

Mike Parkinson from Revenue and Customs said taxpayers have to foot the hefty clean-up costs of fuel laundering plants and are missing out on unpaid tax. "Buying illicit fuel funds crime and supports and encourages these dangerous activities.

I would urge anyone with information on fuel misuse in their area to contact our free telephone hotline on 0800 59 5000 and contribute to the fight against this criminality," he said.
