Top lawyer Clooney to represent 'Hooded Men'

ONE of the 'Hooded Men' last night welcomed news that the wife of Hollywood star George Clooney has joined their legal team.

Fourteen Catholic men claimed they were tortured by the British army during internment in 1971. Ten of the surviving victims are taking a case against the government.

A highly regarded human rights lawyer, Amal Clooney represents Julian Assange, who is fighting extradition from Britain to Sweden.

She made headlines around the world when she married acting A-lister George Clooney in Venice last year.

Francie McGuigan (67), one of the 'Hooded Men', welcomed the high-profile addition to his legal team.

"She is a great human rights lawyer - look at her history and her CV and what she has done," he said.

Mrs Clooney is expected to travel to Belfast in the coming months to meet her clients.

Solicitor Darragh Mackin of KRW Law said her "track record speaks for itself".
