Presbyterian moderator

A 64-YEAR-OLD Co Antrim minister is to be the next moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland. The Rev Ian McNie, minister of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Ballymoney, was nominated by 12 of the 19 presbyteries last night. He beat three other candidates, including Newtownabbey minister Rev Liz Hughes, who was nominated by four presbyteries. Mr McNie will officially take up the role on June 1. A grandfather, Mr McNie was educated at Belfast Royal Academy, Queen's University and Union Theological College. He is married with two sons, one of whom is a minister in Co Monaghan.
