Armed masked men rob ship

A MASKED man armed with a hammer robbed a Spar shop in north Belfast. The robber entered the Cavehill Road store at about 9.45pm on Friday and demanded the contents of a till.

About 10 minutes later a passing police patrol spotted two men leaving licensed premises on the Antrim Road.

One of the men matched the description of the culprit from the Spar robbery, police said. The men, one wielding a knife and the other a hammer, were challenged by the officers.

Police then received a report of an attempt to rob the licensed premises.

Two men, aged 30 and 37, were arrested on suspicion of being involved in both raids and yesterday remained in custody.
