Man who spearheaded museum transformation steps down

THE head of the Northern Ireland museums group has stepped down from his post.

Tim Cooke, director and chief executive of National Museums Northern Ireland, is understood to have resigned earlier this month.

In a short statement, it said it "announces the resignation of its director and chief executive, Tim Cooke, for personal reasons".

Few other details are known, with a spokeswoman saying only that an "acting director and chief executive will be announced this week".

Mr Cooke had held the post for 11 years and was responsible for the Ulster Museum, Ulster Folk and Transport Museum, Armagh County Museum and Ulster American Folk Park.

The former head of broadcasting at BBC Northern Ireland had been praised for spearheading the recent transformation of the Ulster Museum.
