Arrest warrant for ex-Gers owner

AN ARREST warrant has been issued for former Rangers owner Craig Whyte as police investigate the football club's sale in 2011, it is understood.

It follows the detention of four men earlier yesterday in connection with the alleged fraudulent acquisition of Rangers FC. David Whitehouse, Paul Clark and David Grier, who all work for former Rangers administrators Duff and Phelps, are understood to have been held with lawyer Gary Withey, who was Rangers' secretary after the takeover.

Police Scotland said four men were detained following a joint operation with forces in Thames Valley, Cheshire and Surrey. Mr Whyte (43), took control of Rangers in May 2011 but the club went into administration in February 2012 - with Mr Whitehouse and Mr Clark acting as joint administrators - and was liquidated before being relaunched as a new company.
