GAA official's university role

A SENIOR Ulster GAA official has been appointed as visiting professor in governance at Ulster University's Sports Academy.

Ryan Feeney, who is the Ulster GAA's head of community and public affairs, gave his first lecture last night at the university's York Street campus on sport and reconciliation.

Former senator Dr Martin McAleese, Sean Sherlock, one of the Republic's junior ministers, and Chief Constable George Hamilton were among the audience.

The post of visiting professor in governance is part-time and does not come with a salary.

GAA director general Paraic Duffy said: "Ryan Feeney has been a central figure in the strategic development and capacity building work of Ulster GAA for many years and has also had an input into both these areas at Central GAA level. The visiting professorship is governance is well deserved and I wish him well with it."
