Ford wants to be kept informed of review concerns

JUSTICE minister David Ford has asked to be notified of any concerns raised during an independent review of how cases against alleged rapist Martin Morris and other republicans were prosecuted.

It is understood the Alliance leader recently wrote to the Director of Public Prosecutions, Barra McGrory, saying it would be helpful to be kept informed of matters arising from the review by leading English lawyer Sir Keir Starmer.

Mr Starmer has been appointed by the PPS to examine three prosecutions taken against Morris and four other republicans accused of involvement in an IRA 'investigation' which collapsed earlier this year. Although his department has no role in the review, it is believed Mr Ford, pictured above, is keen to be kept informed of any issues raised that may impact on government support for victims.

It is believed he has also confirmed his willingness to refer concerns that arise about the justice system to the Criminal Justice Inspector Northern Ireland for review and recommendations.

A spokeswoman for the PPS confirmed they have received the letter.
