Thieves behind death of dog

WOULD-BE thieves are believed to have been behind an horrific attack in which a family's 10-month old pet dog had its necked snapped.

The family pet, a miniature Siberian husky called Cooper, was killed in Derry's Rosemount area at lunchtime on Friday, although details only came to light yesterday.

It's believed a three-man gang broke into a yard at Grafton Street intent on burgling the family home or stealing the full size Siberian husky.

Paul Gillespie, a Siberian husky breeder in Derry, said the owner's sister was in the house at the time and saw the men attacking the pup.

When they realised someone was in the house, the gang ran off.

A PSNI spokesman confirmed police were investigating the death of the dog.
