Man accused of trying to kill relative

CO Down man was remanded into custody yesterday accused of trying to kill a relative. Appearing in the dock of Newtownards Magistrates Court, 49-year-old Bangor man Hugh Mills was charged with the attempted murder of Curt Adam Mills last Saturday.

The 22-year-old sustained a stab wound to his shoulder during a fight at Lysander Park in Newtownards just before midnight on Saturday.

His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

While Hugh Mills, from Abbots Walk in the seaside town, confirmed that he understood the charge against him, a detective sergeant told the court he knew the facts surrounding the incident and said that he believed he could connect Mr Mills to the offence.

Solicitor Dermot Bowes, defending, said he would not be applying for bail but indicted that he will make an application for his client's release later today when he has conducted "further enquiries about an address."

District Judge John Meehan remanded Mr Mills into custody overnight ahead of another hearing today.
