Hit-and-run theory probed

Marie Louise McConville m.mcconville@irishnews.com

A 49-YEAR-OLD woman found with serious injuries beside the road in west Belfast may have been the victim of a hit-andrun, police have said. She was found lying at the side of Whiterock Road, near the junction of Whiterock Gardens, on Thursday night. The woman was taken to hospital where she remained in a serious condition yesterday.

A police spokesman said she is being treated for a fractured skull "amongst other serious injuries which may be consistent with a possible hit-and-run road traffic collision". The spokesman urged anyone who travelled along Whiterock Road between 6.30pm and 7.30pm and who witnessed the incident or saw the woman walking or lying at the side of the road to contact police on 101.
