GAA will stay at Casement

THE GAA will not abandon Casement Park if a decision to approve a new 38,000-seat stadium on the site is quashed, a court has heard. Counsel for the sporting organisation said the west Belfast ground would remain a major part of its infrastructure. A residents' group wants a judge to overturn the granting of planning permission for the £77 million redevelopment. A Planning Service lawyer said fans would be left with a crumbling and decaying stadium because Stormont funding for the project would be spent elsewhere. However, a lawyer for the GAA this did not reflect it's thinking. He said: "The intention of the GAA is, and always has been, that Casement Park will form a major part of the GAA infrastructure in Northern Ireland."
