Charity will fight closure of court

A FAMILY support charity plans to hold a sit-down protest inside a Belfast court building, to be closed next month due to budget cuts.

Mens Aid NI, which provides advice and information to parents following family breakdown, said it intended to "seek intervention" by justice minister David Ford about the future of Old Townhall.

The Irish News revealed yesterday the building on Victoria Street, which houses the Youth Court, Family Court and Coroner's Court, was to shut on November 1.

The Northern Ireland Courts & Tribunals Service (NICTS) said the closure was "necessary to meet a significant reduction in the NICTS budget in the context of wider departmental and public section funding pressures."
