Vandals damage war memorial in paint attack

A WAR memorial has been damaged by vandals in a paint attack in Co Antrim. Grey paint was thrown over the monument in the village of Stoneyford, near Lisburn, early yesterday morning. It is the second time the war memorial has been attacked in the past three months. Lisburn councillor Robbie Butler condemned the vandalism and described it as "mind less sectarianism". "This is a disgraceful attack and must be condemned by all sections of the community," the Ulster Unionist representative said. "It is particularly saddening that shortly after both the UK and the Republic of Ireland were united in mourning the 100-year anniversary of the outbreak of World War One this sort of mindless sectarianism could take place." Last night said they had not yet received any reports of damage to the memorial.
