How Housing Executive described the tribute

"THIS garden of reflection was supported by the Housing Executive working in partnership with the Annadale and Haywood residents association. "It is part of our re-imaging programme which supports communities in moving away from paramilitary displays and symbols in our estates, and was in response to the community's request to assist them to remove a large UFF symbol at this location. "The re-imaging of this site will have a significant regeneration impact in this estate, and the group have progressed with their re-imaging plans further. The residents have approached the Arts Council with their proposal for a public art piece in the communal area across from this new garden, which will also see the removal of a further UFF symbol at this location. "The residents group fully engaged in the design and consultation process for the new garden. The Housing Executive sought agreement that there would be no paramilitary imagery in the new garden and it is intended as a space for quiet reflection. The new garden is located adjacent to a block of flats in which this residents association have their community facility. This facility, which is let to the community group by the Housing Executive, provides invaluable community support to all the residents of Annadale, and the group runs numerous activities including after-school clubs, a housing sub office and skills training courses. A recent independent evaluation of the group commended their work, particularly with the minority ethnic residents in the area, and highlighted how they assisted in developing greater community cohesion in Annadale. "The garden was completed two months ago and work was undertaken by a contractor procured by the Housing Executive. The cost of the garden was £11,000 and this was funded by the Housing Executive. Residents of the adjacent flats gave written permission for the garden to be constructed. "The garden will be maintained by the residents association."
