Vandals chop down trees

VANDALS have chopped down almost two dozen trees along a north Belfast path. The trees were destroyed on land close to the 'snakey path' between the Whitewell and Antrim roads.

The Housing Executive maintains land along the path. Malachy Brennan from the executive said 13 trees were removed several weeks ago and a further 10 were cut down earlier this week. Mr Brennan said the destruction had an environmental as well as financial cost. He said over the past six years, many trees had been planted at a cost of more than £3,250. He said the trees were being cut down late at night and appealed for anyone with information to contact police or the executive.
