Confusion over report into McCrea allegations

THERE was confusion last night over a report into allegations of sexual misconduct against nI21 leader Basil McCrea.

The party's deputy leader John McCallister, who asked mediation organisation Carecall to look into the claims, said mediators had taken statements and had been preparing a report.

But he said the report was stopped. "I tried to deal with the issues and rumours and allegations of... but it's been taken out of my hands," he said.

"Carecall were taking statements about these allegations and were writing a report.

"To my knowledge that report was never completed.

"I am not happy with this."

Last night the party's executive said it had not "received any report from Carecall" but did not say if the report had been stopped.

The party's new chairwoman Jayne Howson, told the BBC, she has not seen a Carecall report and has no part in it. She said only Mr McCallister can act

It is understood former nI21 employee Ashleigh Murray, who made allegations against Mr McCrea, left, will now make a complaint to the assembly's standards Commissioner.

Mr McCrea has denied he did anything wrong.

Allegations of misconduct first emerged as voters went to the polls in last month's European and local government election campaigns.
