Ex-ambassador to Holy See delivers lecture

A former British ambassador to the Vatican has delivered the annual Le Cheile - Together lecture at St mary's University College. Francis Campbell, the Co Down man who served between 2005 and 2011 as Britain's ambassador to the Holy See, spoke on the theme of faith and education in a pluralist world.

Dr Richard Clarke, Church of Ireland Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland, chaired the event at St Mary's. Mr Campbell (43), from rathfriland, was the first Catholic since the reformation to represent Britain at the Vatican.

He also accompanied Pope Benedict on his visit to Britain in 2010.

He is also the new principal of St mary's University College, Twickenham, where he took up his post last month.
