Funding restored for victims' group

THE Irish government has restored funding to a group helping victims of the Troubles in the Republic.

Tanaiste Eamon Gilmore announced that Justice for the Forgotten had been allocated a E48,000 grant, which will be delivered through the Pat Finucane Centre.

The group lost its state funding in 2010 and only remained in existence after joining forces with the Pat Finucane Centre. Yesterday's announcement came as those injured and bereaved by the 1974 Dublin and Monaghan bombings prepare to mark the 40th anniversary of the atrocity on May 17.

Mr Gilmore said Justice for the Forgotten had "worked steadfastly over many years on behalf of the families of those killed and injured on that terrible day'', and the grant would ensure that its "valuable work'' could continue.
