Plans in place to avoid music festival chaos

THE promoter of a country music festival which descended into chaos last year has said changes have been made to ensure there is no repeat of the problems.

Several people were crushed and pushed to the ground during the 'Jamboree in the Park' in Fintona, Co Tyrone in November.

Video footage showed people being trampled at the Ecclesville Centre amid frightening scenes.

However, Andrew Short from AJS Promotions has said a number of changes have been made to ensure an event next month is a success.

These include a new one-way system to the toilets and courtyard where the bottleneck happened last year.

Mr Short said he believed the "last incident was blown out of proportion", but a number of alterations had now been made.

"We have made a number of improvements and I feel we have the venue absolutely perfect to host events like this," he told the Ulster Herald.

"We have introduced a hard inter-linking flooring system within the arena, the same as that used when concerts are held in football stadiums.

"There will be no more walking over dirt or muck and the Eccles-ville Centre is also concreting around the outside of the venue.

"We also have a new entrance coming into the back of the facility now and this has given us more room."

Jamboree in the Park 2014 is due to be held from May 2-4 and will feature country stars including Derek Ryan, Johnny Brady and Mike Denvir.
