School set to change communion date again

A NORTH Belfast primary school has proposed for a second time changing the date its pupils will make their First communion. Our Lady of Lourdes primary school had been advised to bring the religious ceremony forward by a week as the original date had coincided with the Giro D'italia cycling race. Around 90 boys and girls had been due to receive their First communion on saturday may 10 at St Gerard's church on the Antrim road but the road will be closed as it is part of the cyclist's route. Parents of primary four pupils were told last week that the ceremony had been changed to may 3. However, it is understood the school is considering moving it back to may 10 with a later start time. Thousands of spectators will line the Antrim road to watch more than 200 cyclists pass in the prestigious event which gets under way in Northern ire-land before moving to the republic and on to Italy. The may 10 leg covers a 218 km route starting on Belfast's Antrim road and going to Antrim, Ballymena, Bushmills, the Giant's causeway taking in the coastline from Cushendall to Larne, on to Whitehead and Carrickfergus and back to Belfast.
