Ex-partner facing trial for killing of launderette worker

THE former partner of a launder-ette worker was returned for trial yesterday accused of her murder.

Dressed in a red tracksuit top, grey tracksuit bottoms and orange T-shirt, Fred McClenaghan appeared in the dock at Belfast Crown Court for an arraignment hearing.

The 51-year-old, of Broad Street in Magherafelt, Co Derry, pleaded not guilty to the murder of Marion Millican, pictured.

Mrs Millican (51) was shot in the chest with a shotgun while she worked at a launderette in Portstewart in March 2011.

The mother-of-four had previously been in a relationship with Mr McClenaghan which had ended three months earlier.

Mr Justice Weir yesterday fixed a date for the trial as Monday May 19. The trial is expected to last three to four weeks.

Mr McClenaghan, pictured, was remanded in custody to await his trial.
