FORMER Fianna Fail TD Ivor Callely will be sentenced in July after admitting expenses fraud.

The one-time junior minister, pictured, who served in extaoiseach Bertie Ahern's government, admitted fraudulently using an invoice to make a false mobile phone expenses claim. The 54-year-old Dubliner had been due to stand trial on march 24 but Dublin Circuit Criminal Court was told yesterday that he was pleading guilty to using a Business Communication Limited Invoice dated January 2002 as a false instrument on dates between 21 and 22 November at Leinster House. Judge mary ellen ring said she would pass sentence on July 22 when full facts would be heard.

Callely served as Fianna Fail's assistant chief whip from 1993 until 1995 and was appointed a minister of state by mr Ahern in 2002. He lost his Dail seat in 2007 but was appointed to the Seanad by mr Ahern. He remained in Fianna Fail until 2010.
