POLULAR musician Tommy Sands is to leave his weekly programme on Downtown Radio after almost 37 years at the station. Sands has presented his Sunday night show Country Ceili since August 1977. Sands, pictured, said: "I will miss the companionship of the listeners and the contact of all my colleagues at Downtown who will remain dear friends without exception."
But he criticised the "trend of multi-national radio buyovers, who pull the strings from afar and knock the local station out of tune with its own music, poetry, lore and sense of place".
