"Suspected firearm" has been found close to homes in the Ardoyne area of north Belfast. the weapon was recovered from an entry near Brompton park on Friday. police said: "the firearm has been taken away for further forensic examinations." Sinn Fein councillor Gerry Mccabe said it was still unclear what had been found "but certainly any type of weapon taken off the streets is good news for the people of Ardoyne and north Belfast". Last month a "Kalashnikov-type weapon" was recovered in the same area after a dissident republican gun attack on police on crumlin Road.
