Burglars hospitalise householder

A MAN in his sixties needed hospital treatment for a shoulder injury after three masked burglars forced their way into his home, tied him up and threatened him at gunpoint. The gang, one carrying a suspected firearm, forced their way into the victim's house on Ryanstown Road in Warrenpoint, Co Down, at about 9pm on Friday.

They ordered him to the floor, demanded money and one of the intruders held him down while the others ransacked the property.

The gang tied the victim up and locked him in a bedroom before making off, stealing his Mitsubishi Shogun which was later found burnt out on Upper Burren Road.

SDLP Newry and Mourne councillor Declan McAteer called the attackers "vicious". "I wish to utterly condemn this attack, which was terrifying for all involved, including the neighbours who went to the man's aid," he said.
