Plea to taxi firm over fare prices for wheelchair users

BELFAST taxi firm Value Cabs has come under pressure to reduce standard increased fare prices for wheelchair users. The call has been made by trip-Ability.com, which made a formal complaint to George Best Belfast City Airport regarding Value Cab prices for those who use wheelchairs. The organisation said a policy by Value Cabs - which has the contract for the airport - of charging wheelchair passengers fare plus a half "seriously discriminated" against disabled passengers.

A trip-Ability.com spokesman said yesterday that on thursday, December 5, "a spokeswoman from the airport contacted us and said that Value Cabs were going to alter this policy for city airport customers" though they are still waiting on confirmation of the move.

However, the group has now called on Value Cabs to introduce the same pricing policy for wheelchair users across Belfast.

A spokesman for Value Cabs yesterday declined to comment on the issue.
