'Illegal' car park arrests

Three men have been arrested on suspicion of running an illegal car park in south Belfast which had a National Car Parks sign but was not operated by the company.

The men, aged 29, 30 and 51, were arrested in the Markets area yesterday morning on suspicion of committing fraud by false representation. Police last night asked anyone who had parked in the Stewart Street car park, behind Central Station, to collect their vehicle immediately.

In 2009 the roads Service took action against an illegal car park in nearby Cromac Street.

It had been opened on land belonging to the Department for regional Development with an estimated £1,800 in revenue generated every week.
