Four more arrests in paramilitary probe

POLICE investigating a number of paramilitary attacks in Coleraine and north Antrim made further arrests yesterday.

Four men, aged 38, 41, 45 and 48, were detained in the Coleraine and Ballymoney areas in relation to "serious crime".

They were being questioned at Antrim serious crime suite last night.

On Tuesday, two men aged 35 and 39 were arrested following the shooting of a 15-year-old boy in both legs in Coleraine on November 18.

The pair were detained in the Harpur's Hill area in connection with recent paramilitary-style attacks in the town and north Antrim.

The men yesterday remained in police custody and were being questioned at Antrim serious crime suite. SDLP assembly member John Dallat claimed the UDA has been "trying to re-establish their influence" in Coleraine and Bally-money.

"No one in the community wants to go back to a past which failed everyone, Protestant or Catholic, and any attempt to put the clock back by individuals taking control of illegal organisations, which should not exist, must be dealt with," the East Derry MLA said.
