Star Wars auditions to be held in Dublin

Open auditions for leading roles in the latest Star Wars film will be held in Dublin next week.

Filmmakers are looking for a young actress to play a "street-smart and strong" orphaned girl in her late teens and a young actor to play a "smart, capable" man in his late teens or early twenties.

The opportunity to star in a "major Hollywood Movie" was first published on the Twitter account @UKopen-call, which announced a "nationwide search for lead roles for a Disney movie".

Disney bought Lucasfilm, the production company behind the hugely successful Star Wars series, in October 2012.

The Dublin auditions will take place at Filmbase on Curved Street, Temple Bar, on november 24 from 10.30am to 2.30pm.

Open auditions will also be held in the US and Britain this week.

There have been six Star Wars films, the first three of which were released between 1977 and 1983.

Ballymena-born actor Liam neeson, pictured with co-star Ewan McGregor, was among the cast when the franchise returned after a gap of 16 years and the last film, Star Wars episode III: Revenge of the Sith, was released in 2005.

A seventh, Star Wars episode VII, directed by Star Trek and Lost film-maker JJ Abrams, is now due to go into production next year for release in 2015.

Filming is due to take place in Britain.

Meanwhile, a poll has found that bounty hunter Boba Fett is the fans' choice to make a return to the new film.

A poll of more than 15,000 Star Wars fans on entertainment website IGN.com ranked Fett above regulars such as Chewbacca and R2D2.
