Case against murder victim dropped

An attempted robbery case against a derry man murdered in the city last month was formally dismissed yesterday.

Barry Joseph mcCrory (35), pictured, had claimed that his robbery-bid on the Santander Bank just before Christmas 2011 was a "protest against capitalism".

It had amounted to little more than him presenting a note to a teller saying "this is a robbery", before he turned on his heel and walked out.

He was due to be sentenced at Belfast Crown Court yesterday.

mr McCrory was shot dead in the Shipquay Street flat of his girlfriend on October 10.

His killing sparked a man-hunt on both sides of the derry-donegal border for 58-year-

old Kieran McLaughlin, who police warned should not be approached. McLaughlin was arrested almost a week later in the Galliagh area of Derry.
