Bernard McLaverty, acclaimed for his novels Cal, Lamb and Grace Notes and also considered one of our finest short-story writers, will be in conversation with Marie-Louise Muir in QUB today on the eve of the publication of his new Collected Stories. Melding his native Irish sensibilities to those of his adopted Scotland, his stories attest to life's big events: love and loss; separation and violence; death and betrayal. But they teem with smaller significant moments too - private epiphanies, chilling exchanges, intimate encounters.
