Be proactive against UVF, ex-mayor tells police

POLICE are not "actively moving" against the UVF in east Belfast, former lord mayor Gavin Robinson has claimed. Asked whether he thought the UVF was behind the shooting of Jemma McGrath on Wednesday evening, the DUP councillor, pictured, said: "That is the only organisation that are involved in action like this at this stage. "A young girl has been so callously injured in a gun attack. None of this is what the community wants or needs."

Mr Robinson called on the PSNI to be "proactive" and make "sure that those who are merchants of death and merchants of negativity within east Belfast that the police remove them from the streets". He told the BBC: "There have definitely been clear signs that [the UVF] have been engaged in such negative activity and no clear sign that the police are actively moving against them."
